Generac 083048/83048/0830480SRV AVR Automatic Voltage Regulator without cooling fins (flat back).

If your Generac Generator's output voltage is too high, this is most likely the bad part and it will need to be replaced.

This was used across almost the entire Generac Generator lineup for many years and in many configurations.  The older version 74074 & 083048 have been made obsolete and were replaced by 0830480SRV. Other part numbers used were 74074, 074074 83048 & 083048.

This unit does not have the cooling fins like the 0F97190SRV regulator does.  The 0F97190SRV regulator will replace this regulator, however the mounting hardware may need to be extended to accommodate the cooling fins.  We generally recommend using the 0F97190SRV regulator instead of this one for cost and performance reasons.  Both are still available and in some cases the flat regulator must be used.

These (and all Generac Voltage Regulators that are adjustable) do not come from the factory calibrated for the correct voltage!  You will need to properly adjust this regulator once it's installed in the unit.  This will require a high quality digital voltage meter and a small flat head screw driver.

If adjustments are needed (they almost always are) you will adjust using the small flat head brass colored screw located on the blue potentiometer next to the red LED you see in the picture.

The generator should be running and the frequency should be verified.  For older mechanical governor units, the no-load frequency should be set to 62.5 Hz with the front door on and the lid closed.  Once that is verified, the voltage regulator should be adjusted so that output is between 245 VAC and 248 VAC.  If measuring from line to neutral, the voltage will be half, or 123V to 124V.

For units with electronic governors, verify output frequency (keeping in mind that 5200 series Air Cooled units run at 58 Hz in many cases) and adjust to 240-245VAC or 120-123V if measuring from line to neutral.

Keep in mind that the above voltages are for Single Phase 120/240V systems only!

If you are not comfortable with anything mentioned above, seek a Generac Authorized Dealer to assist with the install and calibration.  Dangerous voltages are present when working with generators!

Generac replacement parts will also usually fit the following Generac branded generators: Honeywell, Guardian, Siemens, Carrier, Watchdog, Centurion, & Bryant.
